Description
The Alamo is most famous for the battle that occurred here on March 6, 1836, but before that, it served as a mission and fortress, and also is the origin of the city of San Antonio. Captured here in the soft morning light of sunrise, this image shows the front of the old structure. If you look closely, you can see shadows cast by the floodlights on the second floor that appear as tombstones. Perhaps an unintended reminder of the massacre that happened here so long ago?
The grass lawn in the foreground is a sacred Indian burial site, preserved as part of the Alamo Plaza.
